Hex is a 6-digit, 24 bit, hexidecimal number that represents Red, Green, and Blue. An example of a Hex color representation is #123456, 12 is Red, 34 is Green, and 56 is Blue. There are 16 million possible colors. RGBA is similar to Hex in that it has 24 bits for RGB color, bit there is an additional 8 bit value for transparency.
The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organziation) aircraft ID is a 24bit address, which has been originally defined for use with SSR Mode S Transponders for identification of aircraft [ICAO "Aeronautical Telecommunications, Annex 10, Vol. III, chapter 9, and Appendix"]. To obtain a Manufacturer Code, please contact ICAO at ops@icao.int and provide the following information: Company Name The [hex] code of an aircraft is assigned; it is an ICAO value contained in the 24 bit address of a transponder. The number is "tied" to the aircraft by way of registration. So once that has been done it is no longer subject to calculation. As an example, following is the ICAO 24-bit address assigned to the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft with the registration N905NA: Hexadecimal: AC82EC; Octal: 53101354; Binary: 101011001000001011101100 (Note: occasionally, spaces are added for visual clarity, thus 1010 1100 1000 0010 1110 1100 {Hex big endian} and 001 101 110 100 000 100 110 101 {Octal little endian}) Decimal: 11305708 2018-01-13 ICAO: Aircraft hijacking: 7501–7577 US: Reserved for use by Continental NORAD Region (CONR) 7600: ICAO: Radio failure (lost communications) 7601–7607 US: Reserved for special use by … There are 65 airports in the world with ICAO Code start with letter A. With the requirement to file all flight plans using ICAO format coming soon, pilots need to understand what codes to enter in which fields. This video takes ICAO / Publications / DOC 8643 - Aircraft Type Designators / Aircraft Type Designators ICAO codes can represent big numbers so they are most commonly written in hexadecimal format which keeps them to 6 alphanumeric digits. As a result of this convention you may hear or see them referred to as simply the aircraft "hex code." The code is programmed into the aircraft's Mode S or ADS-B transponder when it is installed.

It is a six-digit hexadecimal code found in the aircraft registration information, and it’s the same “Mode S code” programmed into your ADS-B equipment when it was installed. Forgot it? No problem, go to www.faa.gov to search the aircraft registry; use the aircraft address identified as “Mode S Code (base 16/hex)”—do not use the ICAO codes can represent big numbers so they are most commonly written in hexadecimal format which keeps them to 6 alphanumeric digits. Do pilots know the unique ICAO 24-bit hexadecimal code for their aircraft? Do they ever give it directly to ATC? For example, to controllers who make the flight strips with destination, departure, type of aircraft etc. I know for a fact that some flight plans are sent out that include the unique hex code for the aircraft. #6 2013-08-03, 13:45 Hi Gregg, at the moment I'm loathe to share it publically (due to the amount of work put in and the fact I know a few people that are wanting to use it commercially!) but if you want to drop me a message with the list of codes you have outstanding, I can see if anyone of them are tied up in my file?

We’re going to focus on ForeFlight and Garmin Pilot for this ICAO flight plan discussion. While both apps ultimately require the same set of information, some of the equipment requirements are grouped together differently in each program, which can lead to confusion.
The error message is that you specified an invalid CODE/ value in field 18. On ForeFlight, this is specified in More>Aircraft>N number>Other Information>Code> This is a six hexadecimal character value. For all N registry aircraft it is a value between A00000 for N1 up to ADF7C7 for N99999. I just learned that, at least in the US, the ICAO hex and N number are mathematically linked. I don’t know the math, but if that formula is publicly available, a feature could be added to dump1090.
